Facebook is now called Meta: Zuckerberg announces the name change

Facebook is now called Meta. What was a rumor a rumor a few days ago, has become a fact: the company founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced the name change as part of the Connect 2021. In the future, the company is therefore no longer known as Facebook, but known as Meta - including a new logo.

Why the change of Facebook to Meta?

As previously speculated, the new name of the company should make better advantage that the construction and expansion of a so-called metaversum will be in focus in the future. What effects this has on Facebook, Instagram & Co.

Mark Zuckerberg has assured at the Connect 2021 that this name change will not have a direct impact on social media services. Say: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will continue to run and be known under their current names. However, in the foreseeable future, it should be possible to use all services of META without needing a Facebook account for this.

Google has made it

With the name change, Facebook goes a similar step as Google has already done in 2015. At that time, the company founded a new parent company with alphabet, but Google itself ran as a subsidiary.
